The journey from arriving at our website to boarding your plane
Once you've chosen the right course for you to attend, we want to make sure you know the process, and help you get ready and excited for what will be an unforgettable experience.
Steps to Departure
-
Choose the course that best suits you - consider if you will have enough time to save or fundraise, and the dates fit with school, uni, work and other commitments.
-
Read our terms and conditions - make sure you know some of the details, so nothing comes as a surprise. Read T&Cs.
-
Secondary students inform your parents that you've applied - make sure it's not a surprise to them, and they support your plans.
-
Complete the application form for your course - you will hear from us by email and text message once you've been accepted. Make sure to check your junk email.
-
Pay your deposit to secure your space - a 10% deposit within one-week of your acceptance is required so we can hold your place on the course. Deposits are refundable within first 14 days, then not refundable, but can be transferred to another course.
-
Read the course information pack - this will be emailed to you once your application has been accepted. It contains all the information you need to prepare for your course.
-
Start fundraising - the remaining course costs will paid in instalments with full payment made 12 weeks before your departure date. Payment dates will be given in the information pack. See here for ideas about fundraising.
-
Send us some personal course info - we will need a copy of your passport, medical and/or dietary requirements, a parental consent form. Our Program Coordinator will assist you with these items.
-
Keep in touch with us - over the next few months we'll talk to you and your parents, run a video call for all participants on your course, and update you with any changes or new information. You can contact us by email, phone, message, or on social media.
-
Arrange your domestic travel - you will need to arrange you own travel to/from the international airport for your course departure, and arrival back after the course. You'll need to let us know your flight details, or if you're being dropped off at the airport.
-
Meet us at your international airport for departure - You will meet our staff, if there's a large group of students flying together, and start getting to know your course mates while we wait for the plane to leave.
Secondary Students - How can I fundraise?
We do not currently have scholarships available. However, many of our students like to fundraise to help cover their course costs.
Fundraising for your course can be a challenging task, but it's also an opportunity for you to step out of your comfort zone and develop important leadership skills. As a leader, you'll need to be able to identify and overcome obstacles, communicate effectively, and engage others in your vision. Fundraising is an excellent way to practice these skills and to demonstrate your commitment to your personal and professional development.
Here are a few ideas on how to raise money:
-
Approach your school: The skills you develop during the programme will help you succeed in your leadership role, so why not approach your Teacher, Careers Advisor, Dean or Principal to see if the school would be able to sponsor you.
-
Use a crowdfunding website: Set up a Givealittle or PledgeMe webpage. Make sure you spread the word to reach as many people as possible! E.g. ask all your friends and family to share the link on social media.
-
Contact a community organisation: Try your local RSA, Lions or Rotary Club as they often offer monetary sponsorship support for courses like this;
-
Download the below sponsorship request letter template to help write to a fundraising organisation.
-
Research organisations that are currently offering grants.
-
Offer your services: You could do small jobs or chores for your family and neighbours in return for a donation. E.g. cleaning, dog-walking, babysitting, weeding or mowing the lawns.
-
Sell products or services: Consider selling homemade crafts, and baked goods or offer a service such as tutoring, photography, or graphic design. You can advertise your products or services through social media or word of mouth.
-
Organise a charity event: Plan a fundraising event such as a charity concert, talent show, bake sale or movie night through your local movie theatre. You can also organise a charity auction by soliciting donations from local businesses or individuals and auctioning off items to the highest bidder.
-
Host a challenge or competition: Organise a challenge or competition such as a trivia night, a 5k run, or a basketball tournament. Charge a registration fee and offer prizes to the winners.
Don't be afraid to ask for help and support. Remember, part of leadership is being willing to step out of your comfort zone and take action. With a bit of creativity and persistence, you can find ways to raise the funds you need to pursue your course and achieve your goals.
